Although I've lived in Utah my entire life, been backpacking all around the West (including Hawaii), and have my own backpacking and hiking website, I've never hiked Mount Olympus. And I'm ashamed. It looks like such a majestic peak and the view from the top seems spectacular. This is definitely on my list of peaks to climb.

I think it is more like 8 miles from the turn than 9, but the signs for Benny Creek on the left on the way up make it obvious where to turn off.

Since this spring has had a lot of snowfall, it probably would be a couple more weeks of warm weather before the trail will be completely free of snow. Definitely by July.

I really like how you organize your hikes by skill level. Here in Hawaii, we generally rate hikes by just three levels: novice, intermediate, advanced. I have a Hawaii hiking blog and I may start categorizing hikes in a similar manner as done here. Good job and thanks!

BTW, I've never been to Utah but my wife and I have a goal to visit there someday and, among other things, do some hiking!

Beautiful photos, reminds me of things I have left to do (I've been through the Utah area hitchhiking and on meandering road trips but haven't hiked there much, slept by the road usually). Another area where I lived and hiked a lot, the Ozarks, used to be desert canyon country about ten thousand years ago. There are quite a few rock formations similar to these but obscured by forests, not so famous. The Pedestal Rocks area in the Quachita Mountains is one of the best. Well worth a day of hiking if you're ever on Highway 7. Better for photography about ten thousand years BC.

I did this trail in 2008 and started in the rain and by the time i reached Mendon peak it had been snowing about the last hour. I was by myself and was kinda in a trance. Was totally in the clounds and couldnt see anything, very glad to see these pics and finally find out where i was at. Curious if i started at trail head or trail end, when i reached Mendon peak i turned back after hiking the ridge for awhile. There was a trail head with sign in sheet, i guess this was the head? Does trail end at different spot? any info would be great or more pics?

Thaks for the great information! One correction though: the coordinates you gave for the trailhead actually lead to the Jenny Canyon Slot in the Snow Canyon area of south-west Utah.

Somebody else back me up on this, but I think the coordinates for the Timpooneke trailhead should be approximately 40°25'52.46" N, 111°38'21.16" W

Actually, the Timpooneke lot is always open, whereas the Aspen Grove is the trailhead that is connected to a campground. The only problem you will run into is as BYU and UVU start their fall semester, these trails get flooded with co-eds. When I hiked this last year, the only parking that we could find was up the road and around the corner from the main parking area which technically is illegal, but since everyone else was doing it, no one got tickets.

Since this trail is open 24/7, many hikers choose to hike this over night in the summer and watch the sunrise at the summit.
